OVERSTOCK & USED EQUIPMENT

Used Boilers & Overstock Parts Sales in Northern Ohio

D. B. Johnsen Co. has stocked used boilers for sale out of Richfield, Ohio since 1958, and the inventory works the way it always has: no online checkout, no published price list. You call (330) 659-9295, we tell you what is on the floor today, and if it fits your load we hold it.

Used boilers for sale move fast enough that specifications published last quarter are often wrong by the time someone finds them, so we would rather read you the nameplate off the actual unit than publish numbers that do not hold up.

No online checkout — inventory moves by phone. Call (330) 659-9295 to check availability or hold an item. UPDATED PERIODICALLY

What Is on the Floor Right Now

Our used boiler inventory is mostly Cleaver-Brooks firetube steam boilers, skid-mounted with the burner and gas train already staged, along with the occasional feedwater heater or economizer that came off a job alongside the boiler.

A recent lot includes two refurbished skid-mounted firetube units, one with the burner and gas train intact, the other gas fired. There is also a firetube boiler that was recently retubed and runs a combination burner, plus a trimmed and tested skid unit with gauge glass and controls already in place.

For someone willing to take on a project, we have a firetube boiler sold as-is that needs a retube. Rounding out the lot is a Cannon Boiler Works feedwater heater and economizer with the finned tube bundle exposed for inspection.

Every one of these is a real unit sitting in our shop, not a stock photo standing in for a category. Call for size, pressure, and current availability, since what is listed here changes as stock moves.

WHAT THE CONDITION TAGS MEAN

What Our Condition Tags Actually Mean

We use three tags, and each one means something specific. Refurbished means the unit has been through our shop: inspected, trimmed, and made ready to install and fire. Used, tested means it came in running and we have verified that ourselves, but it has not been rebuilt end to end.

As-is means exactly that, a project unit, usually a used boiler that needs a retube or refractory work before it earns its keep, priced to reflect that. Knowing which tag applies to a used industrial boiler tells you more than a horsepower rating ever will, because it tells you what you are actually buying into.

WHY THE LISTINGS ARE SHORT

Why We Do Not List Prices or Specs Online

You will not find horsepower ratings, working pressures, or prices anywhere on our used boilers for sale. That is deliberate, not an oversight. A used steam boiler that was accurate on paper six months ago may already be sold, or may have had a tube replaced since, or may be sitting next to a different unit entirely by the time someone reads the listing.

Rather than guess or round up, we tell you what is in the building today when you call. If you are searching for a used boiler near me and comparing dealers by browsing specs online, that approach will consistently mislead you, ours included, which is exactly why we skip it.

Overstock Parts and Scratch-and-Dent Inventory

Alongside full units, we carry overstock and scratch-and-dent parts pulled from decommissioned equipment and warehouse stock: gauge glass and sight glass in common firetube sizes, safety and relief valves in assorted sizes, burner components including diffusers, electrodes, and linkage, bench-tested boiler feed pumps, low-water cutoffs and controls in both new and older stock, gaskets and hand-hole plates, firetube door refractory kits, and flame safeguards and pressuretrols.

There are usually another ten to fifteen items in the warehouse beyond what is staged in the shop, so if you need a specific part for a used boiler equipment repair, call and we will check the current list before you assume it is not in stock.

NEED A TEMPORARY BOILER?

Renting While a Boiler Is Down

If your plant lost a boiler and buying a replacement is not fast enough, we also rent. Trailer-mounted units and mobile boiler rooms can keep a facility running through an unexpected outage or while a unit is out for a retube, which buys time to make a better decision about whether to buy a used boiler dealer’s equipment outright or order new.

IS USED THE RIGHT CALL

Is a Used Boiler the Right Call for Your Building

Sometimes, not always. A pre-owned boiler makes sense when the budget will not stretch to a new unit, when lead time on new equipment matters more than efficiency, when you need a spare or backup boiler sitting in reserve, or when the load is intermittent enough that a modern condensing unit would never pay back the difference in fuel savings. In any of those situations, buying a used boiler is a genuinely practical decision, not a compromise.

It is the wrong call when fuel cost is the real problem. An older firetube will not match a new high-efficiency boiler on a gas bill, and over a decade that gap usually outweighs whatever you saved buying a surplus boiler up front.

Because D. B. Johnsen sells and installs both new and used equipment, we will tell you honestly which side of that line your situation falls on rather than steering you toward whichever unit happens to be sitting in the yard.

AFTER THE SALE

Buying, Installing, and Servicing Afterward

D. B. Johnsen handles startup on every unit we sell, and installation runs through your mechanical contractor, coordinated with our team so the boiler goes in the way it was tested. After it is running, we stock parts and service equipment anywhere in our Northern Ohio territory, whether or not you bought the unit from us.

That is the difference between buying a refurbished boiler from a broker who never opens the crate and buying from the shop that inspected it, retubed it if it needed retubing, and will still answer the phone three years from now.

USED EQUIPMENT FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I check pricing or availability on a used boiler?

Call (330) 659-9295. We do not list prices online because used boilers for sale turn over too quickly for a published number to stay accurate, but we can tell you what is on the floor and what it costs the same day.

What is the difference between refurbished and used, tested?

Refurbished means the unit went through our shop and was inspected, trimmed, and made ready to fire. Used, tested means it came in running and we verified that, but it was not rebuilt.

Can I buy a used boiler as-is if I am willing to do the retube myself?

Yes. As-is project units are priced to reflect the work still needed, whether that is a retube, refractory repair, or both, and we will tell you exactly what condition the unit is in before you commit.

Do you help with installation after I buy a used industrial boiler?

We handle startup on everything we sell, and we coordinate directly with your mechanical contractor on installation so the unit goes in correctly.

What if I need a boiler temporarily while mine is being repaired?

We rent trailer-mounted units and mobile boiler rooms so your plant can keep running through an outage or a retube while you decide on a longer-term fix.
