GETTING THE SIZE RIGHT

Oversized is not safer

The most common problem we find in an existing boiler room is a unit far larger than the building needs — usually because someone replaced like-for-like decades after the load changed. An oversized boiler short-cycles: it fires, satisfies quickly, shuts down, and repeats. That wastes fuel on every purge, wears out the ignition components and refractory faster, and makes clean combustion numbers nearly impossible to hold.

So we start with the load rather than the nameplate on the old unit. What does the boiler feed, what is the real peak, what happens in the shoulder seasons, what fuel is available, and how much room is there to get equipment in and out? Sometimes the answer is two smaller boilers instead of one large one, so that a failure costs you capacity instead of everything.

LEAD TIMES & PLANNING

Plan a replacement before it fails

Commercial boiler lead times have not returned to what they once were, and a unit that fails in December cannot be replaced in December. If your boiler is near the end of its life, the useful move is to get it sized and quoted now so the order can be placed the moment you decide — not after a failure has already turned it into an emergency.

If timing does go against you, a rental boiler can carry the building until the new unit arrives, and a refurbished unit is sometimes the faster answer. Delivery is coordinated with your installing contractor, and we are on site for startup — then it becomes a boiler we service, not one we walked away from. Serving nineteen counties of Northern Ohio.
